Join us for a walk on the wild side around Duxford Village!

In July, Duxford C of E Community Primary School suffered a devastating fire which caused extensive damage. The aim of this event is both to enjoy a socially distanced family activity and to raise funds which will be equally distributed between Friends of Duxford School, the preschool and the DX Club.

Families and residents of Duxford Village are invited to make 2D and 3D animals to be displayed in front gardens, driveways or in windows over the weekend of 12th and 13th September 2020 (keep scrolling for inspiration!). If you lack a creative streak, perhaps you have a large lion teddy bear or snake that you could display. These will be added to a map which can be downloaded from this website and then individuals or families can complete a walk around the village finding as many animals as they can. The walk is free, but please do consider donating to the fundraising efforts.

There is also the option to take part in a safari treasure hunt on both the 12th and 13th September - there will be information placed in certain locations, marked on a paper map and an answer sheet to fill in. This extra element of the walk costs £5 to enter and there are some wonderful prizes to be won thanks to our sponsors. Of course, there is no obligation to enter the treasure hunt and if you wish to only complete the safari walk, then please do!

If you do wish to take part in the treasure hunt, simply book a 5 minute slot to pick up your map, clue and answer sheet from outside Duxford Community Centre (you can do this by clicking below). The 5 minute slot must be adhered to to ensure social distancing both at the starting point and around the village.

The £5 is payable on the day - please use the available hand sanitiser to place your money in the box and to pick up your sheets. Please ensure you bring the correct change as there will be no change available due to the current conditions.

The treasure hunt slots run from 9:45 to 15:45 on both days and the walk should take no more than an hour, even for little legs. All sheets must be returned by 17:00 to be entered into the draw.

Please note that if there is a football game on the recreation ground during your slot, please either use the back entrance to the recreation ground through the park or walk down the path next to the gravel drive towards the Community Centre, avoiding the football game!

NB. The Duxford Chatterbox incorrectly advertised the treasure hunt as costing £2 - this was a misprint and I'm sure you will agree that the cause and the quality of the prizes makes a £5 charge a reasonable one indeed!

Download the map app

Below you will find a link to our downloadable map. This will enable you to find our animals on the safari walk as you explore the village and will be updated as more people register their house to be part of the safari walk. Premises showing animals are marked with a burgundy circle with a white star, This is not the map for the treasure hunt - that will be available on the day if you have booked.

The map is provided for free but please do consider making a donation in support of Friends of Duxford School, the preschool and the DX Club if you are downloading it.

Map

Here you will find an old fashioned map which you can print off if you want to find the animals that way on the safari walk. This will be available for download by 10th September. This is not the map for the treasure hunt - that will be available on the day if you have booked.

Both the maps are provided for free but please do consider making a donation in support of The Friends of Duxford School , the preschool and the DX Club if you download either.

FAQ

What time is the walk on?

On 12th and 13th, residents will have the animals on display all day, both days. You are free to complete the walk at any time, in any order you choose.

What time is the treasure hunt on?

The treasure hunt is on from 9:45 to 17:00 (last bookable slot is 15:45) on 12th and 13th September. This is different from the walk and as a specific route must be followed whilst observing social distancing, you must book your 5 minute pick up slot as noted, above. Without this, you will not be able to complete the treasure hunt.

Where is the Community Centre?

You can find the Community Centre behind the football pitch on Hunts Road.

Where can I park?

If you are coming from outside of the village, please be mindful of residents. Hunts Road often has lots of free parking on and is a good place to start either the walk or the treasure hunt. Please be mindful of the football game if you need to cross the recreation ground whilst they are playing.

Where is the money raised going to?

The money will be given to the Friends of Duxford School, the preschool and the DX Club.
